WELCOME to Botswana–Sweden Friendship Association The
Botswana-Sweden Friendship Association, commonly known as BOTSFA, was formed in
1984. The objective was and remains that of promoting an understanding and closer
interaction between Swedes and Batswana, and enhance social and cultural exchanges.
The Association was formed during a period when many Swedish experts
worked in Botswana within the frame of Sweden´s development assistance to the
country in the 70's and 80's. Today the assistance is chanelled through other
organizations, e.g. the Swedish Trade Council and Forum Syd, which implement various
projects in several areas requiring development assistance. Following the Swedish
government's decision to close the Embassy in 2007, representation was replaced
by "Sweden House", locatedin the former Swedish Ambassadors' residence on Presidents
Drive in Gaborone.
The Botswana-Sweden Friendship Association is,
according to its Constitution, open to "any person living in Sweden regardless
of citizenship, to Swedish citizens abroad, and to Botswana citizens, who support
the objectives of the Association."
